In June, David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center released the most important breakthrough in recent years for the Scientology religion: the publication of an entire new edition of all of L. Ron Hubbard's basic books on Scientology and Dianetics, and the simultaneous release of all the lectures accompanying these books -- more than 250 lectures in all.

The significance of this is that these are the very materials which describe the basic principles of Scientology and the route by which L. Ron Hubbard researched them. Anyone studying these books and lectures will come away with a thorough understanding of Scientology.

So much for the rumor mills and the crazy false information people sometimes have about Scientology. Now anyone who really wants to, can find out what it is really all about for himself or herself.

The amount of data is the equivalent of at least a four-year university study of any other subject if not more, but it can be completed in 5 to 56 weeks of full-time study (the rough equivalent of the amount of actual time a college student puts in on his studies —at 60hours per week or more study vs. 12 to 15 hours per week in college, most of which is discussion about vs. actual study of the subject.

I've started my study of the Scientology Basics, as they are called, and I have to say that if anything, David Miscavige was mild in his praise for the magnitude of this project. On a purely subjective basis, I have gained a tremendous amount that I can use and am using in my work and my relationships with others, and it is really changing things for me. I'm more optimistic than I have been for years, and I am so keen to share this with everyone I know, whether or not they are Scientologists.

Backl to School - Already?

I can hardly believe how fast this summer went by -- for me anyway.

To be honest, what is even more shocking is I have a vivid recall of something I swear just happened a few weeks ago. I was walking, a few blocks away from where I live, and I saw a sign that said "New Years 2006." I was struck by the fact that the first decade of this century was half over.

On the one hand it's kind of freaky that time has gone by so fast.

On the other hand, when I'm really busy and active and doing great time seems to melt away. So I guess it's a good thing.

Did you ever see 2001 Space Oddesy? I remember really freaking out when I saw that movie because of the sequence at the end where the astronaut goes from being about 25 or 30 to being about 90 years old in about 8 frames of the film. It seriously jarred me at the time because I felt at risk of having my life disappear.

That's before I got into Scientology.

But its so different when you are productive and happy, and when you know you've getting something important done. Then it's more just a matter of you wish you had more time because you could really use it so well.

Oh. And one last thing.

I'm sure glad I'm not going back to school!

I have some good friends in New York. They invited me to visit them there last summer. They work at the Church of Scientology of New York. What a gorgeous building! I was impressed. I'd seen it before the renovations and it was amazing, what they did for that place!

A friend of mine was having trouble with her boss. I pulled out the Problems of Work - a book by L. Ron Hubbard. We found exactly what she needed to fix things up, and it worked. She was going to quit her job if she couldn't get this sorted out. There is so much great information in that book. It's also a great way to find out about Scientology for anyone who wants to see how they can use it themselves, because it is so practical.

Celebrity Centre Gala

This weekend was the 37th anniversary of Celebrity Centre
I can remember when I first moved to LA (a l-o-n-g time ago) and I used to hang out at Celebrity Centre when it was down on 7th street. It as such an interesting place. sort of like a loft. I loved going to Poetry by Candlelight.

Two years ago I got to attend the CC gala -- the night David Miscavige gave his famous This is Scientology speech.

What a difference from what it was like over 30 years ago. Both great in their own right but the new Celebrity Centre is a real example of the incredible expansion of the Scientology religion.

Pretty Grim

A look through the news today is pretty grim. What with Lebanon and Israel lobbing bombs at one another and killing innocent people and other countries in and outside the region lining up in support of one or the other country it is not a pleasant picture.

I have two comments:

1. It's time human rights was made a higher priority, and

2. There has to be a third party keeping these countries at each others throats, and I suspect that to find who that is you should follow the money. Who is profiting from this war?

There's an important publication you can download at the Church of Scientology International Human Rights Office web site called The Cause of Conflicts by L. Ron Hubbard. I really suggest you read it. It sheds a new light on what has been considered the "normal" way countries interact.

L. Ron Hubbard one wrote:

"One could not exist in a society where oneself or one’s family or friends were at the mercy of some who went about casually taking lives…..

"The stupid, the evil and the insane seek to solve their real or imagined problems with murder. And they have been known to do it for no reason at all.

"Get behind any demostratedly effective program that handles this threat to Mankind and push. Your own survival could depend upon it."

I've also heard David Miscavige, the Chairman of the Board of Relgious Technology Center, commenting on the futility of war in resolving conflicts.

I think it is time to discover what is behind on the conflicts on Earth and actually make progress toward world peace.

Church of Scientology, Mission of Genesee County

Jean Douglas Clarkson did a nice job in her coverage of the Church of Scientology Mission of Genesee County, Michigan.

She quotes Jan Bannon, the director of the mission as saying " "Our purpose as a mission is to introduce new people to Scientology and help them to be more 'at cause' in their lives," Bannon said.

"If someone needs help, I have been trained in the basics and can give them tools to help them withdraw from drugs, alleviate physical pain, help with school and study as well as relationship problems and depression."

"Scientology is open to people of any faith, he said. It is a nondenominational church, using applied religious philosophy meant to help improve conditions in life. It is not a belief system."

As a Scientologist this makes sense to me. I started at a Scientology mission myself - a little over 36 years ago now.

I've never looked back.

New York State of Mind

I come from New York, and although I haven't lived there in a long time, I'm still a New Yorker and always will be.

After all New York is the greatest city on earth. (Even David Miscavige said so in his speech at the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of New York a couple of years ago.)

But I can't say I miss New York summers. They're the worst in the world. My family used to escape to Upstate NY every July and August.

If you are in the City visit our beautiful new Scientology Church on Times Square. It's a great way to treat yourself to something very special.

I don't know anyone who wouldn't like to improve something about their lives if they knew how. And that's just what this church, in the greatest city on earth, specializes in.

Helping Kids

I think its really important to help kids make educated decisions about drugs. By taking drugs they set themselves up for a disastrous life.

I am all for effective drug education (and wish I'd had it when I was a kid. All I had was a cop who came to our high school and showed us what your lungs would look like if you smoked.) I wasn't prepared for the pro-drug hype I got in college and it practically ruined me (the drugs that is).

Scientology helped me overcome the effects of the drugs I'd taken and I don't think I'd be here today if I hadn't found Scientology when I did.

So when I see Scientologists around the world coming out to get the word out to kids I'm really proud.

There's a very good web site the Church of Scientology International created to provide information about drugs. The Scientology Anti-drug site - I recommend it!

What Can be Done about Drugs?

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime has a yearly International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It takes place next week, on the 26th of June. This year's slogan is "drugs are not child's play".

This is particularly apt as a theme because it is vital that we get to our young people before they become addicted to drugs.

The Scientology Anti-drug web site is an excellent resource for information on the drugs. After 15 years of work in drug education the Church has developed very effective literature on the subject that explains the effects of drugs to kids in a way they can understand. It doesn't talk down to them, but it also pulls no punches.

There is also news about the work Scientology churches are doing to combat drug abuse at the Scientology Press Office web site.

Hungarian Anti-Drug Marathon

I found a great story on the Scientology Anti-Drug web site. For five years in a row Hungarian Scientologists have been running ultra-marathons to promote the Scientology anti-drug program in that country.

Imagine.

I can't even conceive of running one marathon, let alone running for over 40 days straight.

But I certainly agree with the cause.

About a year ago I had the opportunity to speak with a Hungarian man I really admired. He was passionate about the young people of his country, and he was very concerned about drug use especially with teenagers. He told me that since the fall of the Soviet Union, when Hungary regained it freedom as an independent state, the kids have gotten more and more into the ways of the "West" and that includes drugs.

What a shame that they adopted the worst of our traits.

I think the idea of promoting a drug-free life so important, as the only message a lot of kids get is that you have to take drugs to be cool.

Church of Scientology of Buffalo

There's a new section on the Church of Scientology of Buffalo web site. It's the speech given by Mr. David Miscavige at the grand opening of the Church.

He stated:

"What we truly celebrate is not this monument, but how in turn this monument serves as a center, a home, to bring the help this world so desperately needs. Which is to say, for all the time and effort of so many fine and caring individuals working throughout this past year to create this new Church, it is but a backdrop to today's opening where the real work begins."

What he is referring to is all the incredible help available to the community and each person in it from the application of Scientology technology.

Narconon Stone Hawk and Priscilla Presley

I was surprised to see in Google news today that Priscilla Presley traveled all the way from Australia to Michigan to be on hand for the grand opening of Narconon Stone Hawk.

This photo was in the Washington Post. and had the following caption "Priscilla Presley waves to fans in Sydney, Australia, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006. Presley plans to speak at the opening of a drug rehabilitation center in Michigan on Saturday June 3, 2006. Presley will help inaugurate the 120-bed Narconon Stone Hawk East residential center in Albion, Mich., spokesman Greg LaClaire told The Associated Press on Friday." (AP Photo/Rob Griffith) (Rob Griffith - AP) Greg LaClaire is the Public Relations person for the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre. Creative Expressions blog mentioned something David Miscavige said about this:

So if we had workable solutions, it was time to bring them everywhere, on a planetary scale, to both reverse those trends and show that something can be done about it.

First was our assault on drugs and the establishment of our Flagship Narconon in Oklahoma—as both the largest residential drug rehab facility on Earth, and as a center to train people to take it everywhere. Personally, I have noticed that when people become more confident, more extroverted, less consumed by their own problems, they tend to want to reach out to help others -- to move out onto the 3rd and 4th dynamic as described above.

There's a DVD I've mentioned before that is one of my favorite things to show people to explain what the Scientology religion is all about. It is called "This is Scientology" and it is a recording of a speech Mr. David Miscavige gave a couple of years ago at the annual celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre. In this speech Mr. Miscavige describes a number of programs Scientologists are involved in, and how much impact they are having on society.

There are so many people from all walks of life who are motivated by a selfless purpose to help their fellow man. The point I feel Mr. Miscavige makes in this speech is that the reason the programs Scientologists are involved with are so effective is because they use the technology developed by L. Ron Hubbard.

As Mr. Miscavige puts it in this speech: "The answer to this planet’s problems will not be found in the "material." Of this there can be no question. For if those solutions can't prevent war nation to nation, how then can it be expected to answer questions like "love," "happiness" or "peace of mind?" So, we can’t expect the answer to be found in chemicals. Not unless one buys into a synthesized utopia, or a "Brave New World," with a perfect pleasure drug.

I like to share this DVD too, but another thing I do is invite people to come to the Church to see it there. They are always willing to put it on and show it to someone. Plus my friends always comment on how friendly and warm the atmosphere is there.

Scientology Expansion in Tampa Bay Area

There are thousands of Scientologists who have made Tampa and the surrounding towns their home, because the spiritual headquarters of the Scientology religion is in Clearwater.

The Scientology Religion blog has an interesting quote from a recent Florida paper on the expansion of the Church of Scientology of Tampa.

The Orlando Sentinal has a piece today on the Church of Scientology of Tampa and the expansion it plans for its service to the entire Tampa Bay community.

In the article it refers to a new life improvement center that it is setting up in St. Petersburg.

The church has a contract to buy a historic 7,000-square-foot building downtown. The sale is not final, but church officials hope it will be by June.

By the end of the summer, the church plans to open a life-improvement center, offering introductory Scientology courses, books by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and audio-visual displays.

Clearwater is home to the church's worldwide spiritual headquarters, where people come for the highest levels of training. But Scientologists generally don't recruit members there.

That is one of the aims of the Church of Scientology in Tampa, where members across the Tampa Bay area perform church services. The St. Petersburg life-improvement center will be an outreach of the Tampa church.

The move into St. Petersburg is part of a major expansion plan by the Church of Scientology of Tampa, which two months ago was recognized at an international church event as the fastest-growing Scientology church in the world.

After buying a property in Plant City last month, the church announced plans to open life-improvement centers in Cocoa Beach, St. Petersburg, Lakeland, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Sarasota this year.

St. Petersburg, one of the largest cities in Florida with an active urban core, was a natural next step, said Ben Shaw, a spokesman for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater.

"St. Petersburg is one of the most vibrant and growing cities in Florida, and we enjoy contributing to that," Shaw said.

I attended the International event where Mr. David Miscavige first announced that the Tampa church had accomplished the goal of expanding to the size of the church L. Ron Hubbard personally directed in the 1960's. This was a terrific accomplishment a few years ago, and the Church has continued to expand since them.

Congratulations to Isaac and Family

"Isaac Hayes and wife Adjowa welcomed son Nana Kwadjo Hayes into the world Apr. 10, according to spokesman Rob Moore. The baby boy tipped the scales at eight pounds, five ounces.

"As Tom Cruise's Suri before him, the unusual tot name requires some translation. Per the Associated Press, Nana is the Ghanaian word for "king," while Kwadjo means "boy born on Monday." (Bypass the calendars: Apr. 10 did indeed fall on a Monday.)

"The Shaft singer likely gained inspiration for the moniker during one of his goodwill trips to the African country. In 1992, Hayes was crowned an honorary king of Ghana's Ada district thanks to his humanitarian deeds."

These humanitarian deeds included introducing the nation to the study technology developed by Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard.

Isaac Hayes is a Freedom Medal Winner, awarded by the International Association of Scientologists.
